Downtown Line 2 set to be a boon
Letter from Florence Ho
North-west area is currently under-served by public transport
I REFER to “Heartland to hotspots in under an hour” (July 16).
It is indeed welcome news that there will be an MRT station near Hillview Ave. At present, residents in this area are sorely under-served by the bus companies.
Buildings have mushroomed here, but public transport has yet to catch up with the demand.
For instance, students who attend schools in the Thomson area (St Joseph’s Institution International and Raffles Institution, for example) have no direct buses from Thomson that can take them to Hillview Ave and Bukit Batok East Ave 2 area.
These students have to take several buses and/or the MRT to and from school.
At the Bukit Batok MRT and bus interchange, there is only one bus that goes to Hillview Ave. This bus meanders through the estates before heading towards Hillview.
There is also no bus service from Bukit Gombak to Hillview Ave. On days when these students have co-curricular activities, they reach home way past dinner time.
